Enjoy this official recording of the 80th commemoration of the S.S. Tilawa held on Wednesday November 23rd 2022 at 18:00, Grand Hotel, Mumbai India. Over 100 attended including His Majesty's British Deputy High Commissioner Mr. Alan Gemmell, Bollywood legend Mr. Johnny Lever, and Commodore Koshy. Families connected to the Tilawa tragedy attended. The commemoration was hosted by Mr. Mukesh R. Solanki (aka Kash Kumar), and Mr. Emile Solanki, supported by the Maritime Mumbai Museum Society.

Featuring the forgotten tragedy of the ill-fated S.S. Tilawa. Mr. Arvindbhai Jani, and Mrs. Tejparkash Kaur Manget are 2 known survivors who were interviewed and told some of their recollections.
Also, 94 year old Mr. Mervyn Maciel lost his family, and was a teenager at the time.

Tilawa, we held this press conference to give the local media an opportunity to meet known survivor Mr. Arvindbhai Jani. Since the commemoration was by invitation, we were able to share some of our program with the press.

Reporter Rajiv Popat of ITV News Central interviews Kash Kumar a radio broadcaster. His grandfather the late Mr. Nichhabhai Chibabhai Solanki drowned during the Japanese attack of the S.S. Tilawa. Kash Kumar is a Leicester boy. He and his son Emile Solanki recently hosted the first ever commemoration of the S.S. Tilawa forgotten tragedy on the 80th anniversary in Mumbai India. It was an event not only to officially acknowledge the incident but to also memorialize the lost of 280 lives.

On Friday October 28th 2022, reporter Daniel Henry of ITV News London interviews Mr. Arvindbhai Jani, age 83, a survivor of the S.S. Tilawa. This is the first time a S.S. Tilawa passenger is seen on Television. Special thanks to ITV News London for taking this story. Next month we will commemorate the 80th anniversary in Mumbai India, with the presence of Mr. Jani and his family.
